Whether you are new to Port
Wentworth or have been around for a while, the following will
answer many of the questions that we are asked. Save
yourself some time by scanning down the list for answers to
questions you may have.
Q: What do I need to
do to initiate water, sewer and trash service?
A: Fill out
the
Water/Sewer/Sanitation Service Application. The form is
available online or can be picked up from City Hall at 305
South Coastal Highway Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00
pm.
Once completed, return form
to the Water Department at City Hall and pay your deposit.
Q: How much are the
deposits for water, sewer and trash?
A: For
residential customers, the water/sewer deposit is $100.
There is a $75 new service fee for sanitation services.
Commercial customers will need to call 964-4379 to obtain your deposit amounts.
Q: After applying,
how long does it take for my water/sewer/trash service to begin?
A:
Applications received before 12:00 pm, can typically be
connected the same day.
Q: When will I
receive my utility bill?
A: Utility
bills are mailed the first working day of each month and are
due upon receipt.
Q: What type of
payment does City Hall accept for utility bills?
A: Cash,
Check, Money Order or Debit Card. Now sign-up for ACH
drafts from your checking or savings account. For
questions, please call City Hall at 912-964-4379.

Q: Do you have
somewhere to drop off payments for water bills?
A: There is a
drop box at City Hall on the side of the building where you
can deposit your utility bill. There is also a drop
box behind Heritage Bank of the South located at the
intersection of Highway 21 and Highway 30. No cash
payments can be put in either drop box.
Q: How do I have my
water service cut off?
A: Fill out
the
Water/Sewer/Sanitation Disconnection Form. The form is
available online or can be picked up from City Hall at 305
South Coastal Highway Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00
pm. You will have
to provide a forwarding address to enable the City to either
send you a refund from your deposit or send your final bill.
Q: If I have a
problem with my utilities after hours, who do I contact?
A: The
Water/Sewer/Sanitation Department hours are from 8:30 am –
5:00 pm Monday through Friday. In the event of an emergency,
please call 964-4379, ext 104 and you will be connected with
the on-call supervisor.

pick-up?

pick-up?
A: Dry trash
will be picked up on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each
month.
Q: How do I get a
building permit?
A: Building
Permit Applications are available online or can be picked up
from City Hall at 305 South Coastal Highway Monday through
Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
Q: How do I get a
building inspection?
A: Requests
for inspections can be made on-line or a form can be picked
up from City Hall at 305 South Coastal Highway Monday
through Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
Q: How can I contact
the Police Department?
A: The Police
Department can be reached during business hours Monday
through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm at (912) 964-4360. After
business hours, please call 911.
Q: When is court?
A: All court
sessions are held on Tuesdays at 3:00 pm. Court is held at
Port Wentworth City Hall located at 305 South Coastal
Highway, Port Wentworth, Georgia. For information on court

Q: How and where do I
pay my fines?
A: You can
mail your check or money order made payable to the City of
Port Wentworth to: Port Wentworth Police Department, 323
Cantyre Street, Port Wentworth, GA 31407. You may also bring
your payment to the Police Department at this same address
or pay your citation online at
www.pwtix.com.
Q: How do I get an
occupational tax certificate (business license)?
A: You can
obtain an Occupational Tax Registration form online or an
application can be picked up from City Hall at 305 South
Coastal Highway. For more information on occupational tax
